Introduction:
It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually, and physically because of what they have to encounter each day trying to treat and help others in developing their psychological, spiritual, and physical well being. To be a successful healer they must follow what they teach and preach. I need to develop spiritually and physically towards achieving my goals. The lack of exercise is making me feel depress about my appearances and at the same time bringing down my spiritual experiences.
Assessment:
I assessed my health in each domain by evaluating my feeling towards them. What I’m feeling each day gives me an insight on what I need to work on. From the score of 1 to 10, with 1 being the worse and 10 being the best, this how I rank wellness: Spiritually, I give it a 3, because at least I have the thoughts of wanting to help others and my career as a Medical Assistant proves that. I know that I need to be more motivated to pursuing what I have planned. Physical well being, I give it a 4 because I did made the effort to changing my diet by eating healthier and not eating late. I have also cut down on alcohol by occasionally drinking. I might have changed my diet but I still need to work on exercising. I’m going on my third week with this cough, which is preventing me from working out. I score my psychological well being to be a 8 because I cannot commit myself to implementing the other two practices. As much stress as I’m going through, I managed to move on. As much time as I have to hear my family making fun of my weight, I managed to ignored them and turn the other way. Believe me, sometimes I want to respond back, but I kept my mind straight and just say “it’s not worth it, I will show them that I can lose this weight.”
Goal Development:
My physical goal is to lose weight by the time summer gets here. I want to at least fit into my size five jeans again or return to my normal 95 lb weight. Psychologically, my goal is to pass my CMA certification. My spiritual goal is to implement meditation as part of my daily routine.
Practices for Personal Health:
Physical, I tend to walk on the treadmill three times a day for at least 30 minutes and continue eating healthy. In addition, I’m taking a diet supplement to enhance my energy level. Psychological, I will make the effort to finding a job that I will enjoy doing and continue my education later in the future. Spiritual, I need to attend church and implement meditation. Perhaps, I should join a volunteer team in order to get my spiritual up.
Commitment:
To assess my progress or lack of progress, I will probably keep a log book handy. I will record each day, by time, what needs to be done and then I would check it off. If for any reasons, I did not complete a certain task, I would either find a way to complete that tasks before the day is over or just double up on the work the following day.
I enjoyed reading your project for this class. You were very honest and I think that honesty is the first step in really being able to get started on change. If we try to hide our flaws or the things we need to change then we won't ever really change oursleves.
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck with all your goals.
Hey Hatsady!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nicole, your honesty is a meaningful step toward health and wellness. Your idea of attending a group is a great idea to get social support. I would also love for you to practice the loving-kindness meditation, giving yourself love you so much deserve. And, please know, I am just a computer click away if you ever need to "talk."
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't like to lie, it only makes me feel more guilty for lying. I know that I have a lot to learn and take actions on completing those goals. Good luck to all.
I enjoyed your post. Do you think if you develop spiritually first taht it could lift you out of your depression or allow you to pursue your physical development? After my divorce I was devastated. I could barely function. I decided to go to church and just sit there. There was a prayer meeting going on so no one really paid any attention to me. I just sat and cried for what seemed like hours. After I stopped crying I got up and got on with my life. I am overweight as well. I have always struggled with my weight. I am now fighting to lose my baby weight. It isn't easy but if you need a buddy so that you have some positive support, I am here for you. I know how it feels to have your family make fun of you and not give you any encouragement. That's ok. You are better than that. You proved that by not answering them. I wish you luck on your CMA certification. Put all of your concentration on that for now. Maybe by focusing on that you will have an epiphany and figure out which direction to go with your life. Again, if you need positive support I am here for you. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHello Hatsady. I have a recommendation for your cough which is also inexpensive. Take 2-4 Vitamin C supplements per day. Lots of water. 3 tsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother (found at Kroger's for $4). You should be fine after a couple of days. Works every time for me and my family.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am sure negative comments regarding your weight are hurtful. I would simply respond by saying that you are working on it and would appreciate encouragement rather than ridicule. Some things you can eat if you must eat late are protein such as egg whites mixed with veggies, peanut butter (by itself), peanuts or almonds, tuna (without mayo) or a peice of grilled chicken with some veggies. These are all very filling and you will not be bloated the next day. Beleive me, I am always saying, "No, can't eat that today cuz I want to wear my dress and I do NOT want to be bloated".
Not sure if you go to a gym or not, but if you I recommend you join some of their group exercise classes. The classes will show you proper formation for weights along with modifation from other members to continue attending. Most also offer free day care such as 24 hrs. If you think you cannot afford it, think twice. Think about other areas you can cut back on so you can afford it. One is buying a water container rather than buying bottled waters. How about taking your lunch more often instead of eating out? Also, not buying sweets at the grocery store will save you tons. Hope this helps and good luck. I was in your place a while back. I lost 20 lbs in 1 yr just making small changes in my lifestyle until it became a habit.
